Charlotte Pelgen: "My Beatle & I"

 

Seit 2017 steht Charlotte unter anderem mit dem Bad Mouse Orchestra international auf der Bühne und hat sich mit Swing der 1920er und 30er Jahre besonders in der europäischen Ukuleleszene einen Namen gemacht, kam mit ihrer Musik aber bereits bis nach China und Neuseeland.

Im Herbst 2023 legte sie ihr Debüt-Soloalbum „My Beetle & I“ vor, mit dem sie jetzt erstmal als Solo Künstlerin auf Tour geht. Im Mittelpunkt stehen ihre eigenen Lieder, viele davon inspiriert vom Swing des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts, seinen typischen Rhythmen und Harmonien. Musikalisch spannt sie den Bogen aber noch viel weiter. So mischt sich etwa ihre Liebe zu Chanson und Folk unüberhörbar in ihre Kompositionen.

Ihre Texte erzählen kleine, persönliche Geschichten, sind poetisch, pfiffig, frech und immer unterhaltsam. Ihre Musik ist eine Verneigung vor den Künstler*innen früherer Epochen, aber immer mit einer großen Brise Charlotte. Mal frech und swingig, mal zart und komplex.

Beim renommierten Bundeswettbewerb Gesang wurde Charlotte Pelgen 2020 mit dem 2. Preis in der Sparte Chanson, und 2022 mit dem Walter Jurmann Preis ausgezeichnet.

Charlotte has been performing internationally with the Bad Mouse Orchestra since 2017 and has made a name for herself with swing from the 1920s and 30s, particularly in the European ukulele scene, but has already travelled as far as China and New Zealand with her music.

In autumn 2023, she released her debut solo album "My Beetle & I", with which she is now going on tour as a solo artist for the first time. Her own songs take centre stage, many of them inspired by the swing of the early 20th century, its typical rhythms and harmonies. Musically, however, she spans a much wider range. For example, her love of chanson and folk is unmistakably mixed into her compositions.

Her lyrics tell small, personal stories, are poetic, clever, cheeky and always entertaining. Her music is a tribute to the artists of earlier eras, but always with a big breeze of Charlotte. Sometimes cheeky and swinging, sometimes delicate and complex.

Charlotte Pelgen was awarded 2nd prize in the chanson category at the renowned German National Singing Competition in 2020 and the Walter Jurmann Prize in 2022.

Antiánima

 

Antiánima ist ein zeitgenössisches Jazz-Trio aus Mexiko, das 2019 gegründet wurde und aus Ángel Herrera am Bass, Luis Ángel Orduña an der Gitarre und Samuel Sánchez am Schlagzeug besteht.

Die Musik von Antiánima zeichnet sich durch die Erforschung und Kombination von Klängen aus zeitgenössischem Jazz, Punk, Free Jazz, Progressive Rock, Elektronik und Hip-Hop aus. Sein Ziel ist es, diese Genres auf innovative Weise zu verschmelzen und ein einzigartiges Klangerlebnis zu schaffen.

Derzeit präsentiert das Trio ein neues audiovisuelles Konzert, bei dem sie MIDI-gesteuerte Visuals durch Gitarre, Bass und Schlagzeug einbinden. Darüber hinaus experimentieren sie mit der Steuerung von Synthesizern, Samples und Soundbibliotheken über MIDI, wobei sie ihre Instrumente als Controller verwenden. Diese Suche nach neuen klanglichen und visuellen Ausdrucksformen zeigt die ständige Weiterentwicklung und künstlerische Erkundung von Antiánima.

Darüber hinaus werden Antiánima im April 2024 auf dem renommierten Jazzahead!-Festival in Bremen auftreten, was einen wichtigen Meilenstein auf ihrem Weg darstellt.

Antiánima is a contemporary jazz trio from Mexico created in 2019, made up of Ángel Herrera on bass, Luis Ángel Orduña on guitar and Samuel Sánchez on drums.

 

Antiánima's music is characterized by the exploration and combination of sounds within contemporary jazz, punk, free jazz, progressive rock, electronic and hip hop. His goal is to merge these genres in innovative ways and create a unique sound experience.

 

Currently, the trio is presenting a new audiovisual concert, in which they are incorporating MIDI controlled visuals through guitar, bass and drums. In addition, they are experimenting with the control of synthesizers, samples and sound libraries via MIDI, using their instruments as controllers. This search for new forms of sound and visual expression shows the constant evolution and artistic exploration of Antiánima.

 

Additionally, Antiánima is slated to perform at the prestigious Jazzahead! festival in Bremen, Germany, in April 2024, marking a significant milestone in their journey.

„Shuffle Blues“ Tanzkurs & Social Dance

 

Wenn Du Blues hörst, fängt Dein Körper unweigerlich an sich zu bewegen? Du hast Lust zu tanzen, aber keinen Tanzpartner? Oder Du möchtest Dich nicht an feste Termine in einer Tanzschule binden?
Dann ist unser Social mit vorangehendem Drop-In genau das Richtige für dich. Hier triffst Du Gleichgesinnte und machst neue Bekanntschaften in allen Altersklassen.

 

An jedem 2. und 4. Montag eines Monats gibt es von 19:00 Uhr - 20:00 Uhr einen Blues-Tanzkurs mit Annette Kühnle, sowie anschließendes Social Dancing von 20:00 Uhr – 22:00 Uhr.

Die Kurse sind jeweils thematisch in sich abgeschlossen und finden unabhängig voneinander statt, so dass man jederzeit einsteigen kann.

Keine Anmeldung erforderlich - komm einfach vorbei! Anfänger sind ebenso willkommen wie erfahrene Tänzer, die tiefer in den Blues-Tanz einsteigen wollen.

 

22.04.2024: „Grooviger Shuffle Blues“
Die wohl bekannteste Form des Blues: der klassische, erdige Shuffle Blues aus Chicago und darüber hinaus. In diesem Kurs erlernen wir einige einfache Shuffle-Schritte und Grooves und vertanzen diese gemeinsam mit dem Tanzpartner in alle Richtungen und zu allen Blues-Tempi!

When you listen to Blues music do you feel compelled to move? Perhaps you want to dance but don't have a dance partner. Or you just don't want to commit to the fixed schedule at a dance school! In any case our Blues social, with its preceding class, is just the thing for you. Here you'll meet like-minded people and make new friends of all ages.

Every second and fourth Monday of the month, from 7-8pm, there'll be a themed blues dance class with Annette Kühnle followed by social dancing from 8-10pm.
The classes are independent of one another so you can join whenever you like (no registration necessary).
Beginners are welcome, and so are more experienced dancers who'd like to dive deeper into the fundamentals of blues dancing.

22.04.2024: „Groovy shuffle blues“
Probably the best-known form of blues: the classic, earthy shuffle blues from Chicago and beyond. In this course we will learn some simple shuffle steps and grooves and dance them together with our dance partner in all directions and to all blues tempos!

Eine Zeitreise durch Swing, Pop und Rock in Italien, und darüber hinaus...

 

Mit der Gitarre und seiner mal warmen und intimen, mal rauen und aggressiven Stimme nimmt Mario das Publikum mit auf eine Reise in seiner Zeitmaschine durch die Musik des letzten Jahrhunderts.

 

Mario Ansaldo, sizilianischer Musiker und Sänger, pendelt seit mehreren Jahren zwischen Sizilien und Deutschland. Er studierte klassische Gitarre und Klarinette, bevorzugte aber schon immer die E-Gitarre.

 

Er hat viele Musikgenres gespielt, von Pop/Rock bis Renaissancemusik, von Country bis Swing, sowohl live als auch in seinem Tonstudio „Doctor Sound's“.

 

Dies ermöglichte ihm die Zusammenarbeit mit Künstlern unterschiedlicher Herkunft und auch mit einigen der bekanntesten italienischen Musiker, darunter:

• Ricky Portera (Gitarrist von: Lucio Dalla, Stadio, Vasco Rossi, Paola Turci).

• Claudio „Gallo“ Golinelli (Bassist von: Vasco Rossi, Gianna Nannini, Adriano Celentano).

• Egidio La Gioia, Co-Protagonist in den offiziellen italienischen Versionen der Musicals „Jesus Christ Superstar“, die einzige von Tim Rice und Andrew Lloyd Weber autorisierte Version in Italien, „Tommy“, „Evita“.

• Christian, dem Sänger der italienischen Schlager „Cara“, „Daniela“.

   

In den letzten Jahren hat er die E-Gitarre fast vollständig aufgegeben und sich mehr der akustischen Gitarre verschrieben. Sein Repertoire umfasst italienische und internationale Hits der Country/Blues/Swing/Pop/Rock-Musik welche Mario mit den Techniken Strummings und Fingerpickings spielt.

 

Er ist unter anderem Autor der folgenden Musikstücke:

• „Booganga“: für die Informations-DVD der ERSU (Regional Body for the Right to University Education of Messina). Davon wurden 15.000 Exemplaren verteilt .

• „Arabella“: Hintergrundmusik für einen Werbespot, der während der gesamten Laufzeit der EXPO 2015 in Mailand gezeigt wurde.

• „La legge è uguale per tutti (ma non siamo tutti uguali)“. Co-Produzent des Songs und des Videos, beides interpretiert von dem bekannten Komiker Rocco Barbaro.

   

In den achtziger Jahren arbeitete er als Toningenieur und Musiker im Analogy- Tonstudio in Messina. Hier entstand eine der ersten Platten mit dem Song „Lady Blue“. Mario kümmerte sich um das Co-Arrangement und die Programmierung des E-Drums. Außerdem spielte er das Altsaxophon. Dieser Song wurde später als Titellied der südamerikanischen Telenovela „Amor Gitano“ übernommen.

A journey through time through swing, pop and rock in Italy and beyond...

 

With his guitar and his sometimes warm and intimate, sometimes rough and aggressive voice, Mario takes the audience on a journey in his time machine through the music of the last century.

 

Mario Ansaldo, Sicilian musician and singer, has been commuting between Sicily and Germany for several years. He studied classical guitar and clarinet, but has always preferred the electric guitar.

 

He has played many musical genres, from pop/rock to renaissance music, from country to swing, both live and in his recording studio "Doctor Sound's".

 

This has allowed him to collaborate with artists of different origins and also with some of the most famous Italian musicians, including:

• Ricky Portera (guitarist for: Lucio Dalla, Stadio, Vasco Rossi, Paola Turci).

• Claudio "Gallo" Golinelli (bassist for: Vasco Rossi, Gianna Nannini, Adriano Celentano).

• Egidio La Gioia, co-protagonist in the official Italian versions of the musicals "Jesus Christ Superstar", the only version authorized in Italy by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber, "Tommy", "Evita".

• Christian, the singer of the Italian hits "Cara" and "Daniela".

   

In recent years he has almost completely given up the electric guitar and devoted himself more to the acoustic guitar. His repertoire includes Italian and international hits of country/blues/swing/pop/rock music which Mario plays with the techniques of strumming and fingerpicking.

 

He is the author of the following pieces of music, among others:

• "Booganga": for the information DVD of the ERSU (Regional Body for the Right to University Education of Messina). Of which 15,000 copies were distributed.

• "Arabella": background music for a commercial that was shown during the entire duration of EXPO 2015 in Milan

• "La legge è uguale per tutti (ma non siamo tutti uguali)". Co-producer of the song and the video, both interpreted by the well-known comedian Rocco Barbaro.

   

In the 1980s, he worked as a sound engineer and musician at the Analogy recording studio in Messina. This is where one of the first records with the song "Lady Blue" was made. Mario took care of the co-arrangement and programming of the electric drums. He also played the alto saxophone. This song was later adopted as the theme song for the South American telenovela "Amor Gitano".

Mannheim Meets Lennard Fiehn 

 

In dieser Konzertreihe trifft Mannheim auf auftstrebende Talente der jungen Jazzszene. Gemeinsam mit Musikern der Mannheimer Szene bildet der Gast eine einzigartige Band und erarbeitet ein völlig neues Programm.

So werden die verschiedenen Szenen miteinander verbunden - Einflüsse und Vorstellungen der Musik ausgetauscht. Eine spannende Erfahrung, welche man nicht verpassen darf.

 

Zum nächsten Mannheim Meets lädt die Band Lennard Fiehn ein.

Lennard ist Saxophonist/Klarinettist und Komponist aus Basel.

Aufgewachsen im Schwarzwald vollendet er 2020 sein Bachelor Studium an der Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Stuttgart bei Christian Weidner und zwei Jahre später den Master Abschluss am Jazzcampus Basel, bei Domenic Landolf und Mark Turner.

 

Seine Musik ist geprägt durch die traditionelle nordamerikanische Musik der 60er und 70er, insbesondere die Musik von Joe Henderson.

Die Erforschung der Begrifflichkeiten von musikalischen Ausdrücken führt ihn in das moderne Jazz Genre. Seiner Forschung widmet er das Projekt “no shadow without light" (N.S.W.L.).

 

Die einzigartige Kombination von Musik und Musizierenden bietet Grundlage für einen tollen Konzertabend, der mit Spannung erwartet werden darf.

In this concert series, Mannheim meets up-and-coming talents from the young jazz scene. Together with musicians from the Mannheim scene, the guest forms a unique band and develops a completely new program.
In this way, the different scenes are brought together - influences and ideas about music are exchanged. An exciting experience not to be missed.

The band Lennard Fiehn invites you to the next Mannheim Meets.
Lennard is a saxophonist/clarinetist and composer from Basel.
He grew up in the Black Forest and completed his bachelor's degree at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts with Christian Weidner in 2020 and his master's degree at the Jazzcampus Basel with Domenic Landolf and Mark Turner two years later.

His music is influenced by the traditional North American music of the 60s and 70s, especially the music of Joe Henderson.
His research into the concepts of musical expression has led him into the modern jazz genre. He dedicates the project "no shadow without light" (N.S.W.L.) to his research.

The unique combination of music and musicians provides the basis for a great concert evening that is eagerly awaited.

Gnar Gnar Rad [ ˈnɑːr ˈnɑːr ˈræd ] ist ein Projekt des Frankfurter Kontrabassisten Moritz Koser. Erklärte Ziele sind es, irgendwo zwischen Charles Mingus und Ornette Coleman einen eigenen Weg zu finden, dabei moderne Einflüsse mit einzubinden, sich jede Freiheit nehmen zu können um dann darauf zu verzichten, der Tradition Respekt zu zollen, nichts zu ernst zu nehmen, alles zu dekonstruieren und dann wieder aufzubauen, und bei alledem auch noch möglichst viel Spaß zu haben.

So bewegt sich das Quartett musikalisch zwischen punkigem Hardbop, freien Passagen, Groove-basierten Stücken, Popmelodien und Noise.

Auf ein Harmonieinstrument wird verzichtet, dadurch entsteht mehr unbelegter Tonraum der den Bandmitgliedern mehr Freiheit bei der Interpretation lässt, aber auch mehr Verantwortung aufbürdet und für Komposition und Arrangement eine Herausforderung darstellt.

Gnar Gnar Rad [ ˈnɑːr ˈnɑːr ˈræd ] is a project by Frankfurt-based double bassist Moritz Koser. Their declared aim is to find their own path somewhere between Charles Mingus and Ornette Coleman, to incorporate modern influences, to take every freedom they can to then dispense with tradition, to not take anything too seriously, to deconstruct everything and then rebuild it, and to have as much fun as possible in the process.

Musically, the quartet moves between punky hard bop, free passages, groove-based pieces, pop melodies and noise.

There is no harmony instrument, which creates more unoccupied tonal space that gives the band members more freedom in their interpretation, but also places more responsibility on them and presents a challenge for composition and arrangement.
